Hey everyone, so I'm currently considering going to SCAD for Production Design (costume concentration) I live in nyc, so it's hard for me to visit or get a good idea of what the program/school will offer. I prefer a hands on method to learning, and don't want to get caught up in too many theoretical classes, especially for a subject like this. Anyone currently in the program want to share their thoughts/experience?

I'm buried under a large bit of debt from my previous degree, and would rather not have it practically double too. Since it's so much cheaper and closer, I'm considering SUNY Purchase's Theater Design program. If I take foundation courses in both drawing / design somewhere else, would it be worth transferring to SCAD or just stay where I am? From what I can tell from looking online, SCAD seems more film oriented than most schools offering the same type of major, but in terms of what they offer, is it really that much different from a theater based program?

Hi everyone, I'll be attending SCAD this Fall. Can you tell me what the art materials for foundation course are, so that I can buy them here in my country (much cheaper than in the U.S.)? In my country art students use Canson paper and I don't know if SCAD professors would require a specific paper brand. Will there be any watercolor classes? (I'm an undergrad student and my intended major is Graphic Design.)

By the way, can I submit a portfolio to be exempted from foundation classes and what should I submit? I was offered a maximum art scholarship, so I'm wondering if the portfolio submitted for course exemption is any different from the one submitted for art scholarship? Should I just submit the old one?

Thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate it! :D

Does anyone have a copy of Art Since 1940: Strategies of Being by Jonathan Fineberg they'd be willing to lend or sell me for cheap?

Hey, so I just graduated yesterday (w00t w00t) but I'm staying in Savannah for the summer and I need a place to stay. Nothing to far out because I don't have a car nor drive. For the months of July till the end of August would be good. I have a cat so I'm looking for something pet friendly or at least pet tolerant. If anyone is looking for a roommate or knows someone who is let me know.

Hi everyone, I'd be forever grateful if you could take a quick glance at my story.

Basically, SCAD awards me $25,5k/yr in scholarships based on academic and artistic merit (which is in fact only 19k since I'm going to live off campus). However, my family still finds it hard to cover the rest of tuition ($13k/yr) - they can only contribute about $5k-6k annually. I've already applied for all of the available scholarships, AND to make it worse, my financial aid application was DENIED (the committee didn't explain why) - so I think 19k is the maximum scholarship money that I can get from SCAD.

I'm considering sending an email to someone at the financial aid office (NOT my admission counselor, since I want to talk to the committee directly), telling him that I really want to attend SCAD even though other schools' offers are better and asking politely if there's any way left to make the tuition more affordable. Some suggestions that I'm thinking of:
- ask if they can award me the 30 percent of the on-campus award amount that I'm going to lose if living off campus.
- reconsider my financial aid application
- retake the SAT

Do you guys think it's possible? Should I contact the financial aid office, or should I just send my letter to the admission counselor? Do you know how to contact someone in charge, because I only know the finaid office email: sfs@scad.edu?

Thank you very much! Any comments, suggestions are appreciated!

PS: I'm an international student :)
